SARGODHA, Sept 5: A police official from the operations wing on Wednesday injured his counterpart from the investigations wing following an argument over a major robbery in which two traders were deprived of Rs2.1million cash.

The regional police officer (RPO) stopped the two officials from performing their duties and asked them to appear before him on Thursday.

As per reports, two traders of Dulewala, Bhakkar district, withdrew cash from a University Road bank branch and were proceedings towards Khushab Road when two gunmen riding a car intercepted their four-wheeler near Khyam Chowk, a few yards away from the residence of RPO, and deprived them of the cash.

The area is a busy commercial centre and a police team remains deployed there during the rush hours. However, no policeman was present there on Wednesday.

When locals contacted Rescue 15, a team led by DSP Khalid Pervez, who is also acting superintendent of police (investigations), reached there after half an hour.

The DSP got the recording of close-circuit camera installed at the bank from where the traders had withdrawn the cash and later started tracing clues.

DSP Khalid Pervez reached Cantt Police Station at about 3.30pm where DSP City Liaqat Tarar also reached and exchanged hot words with his counterpart.

The DSP city was of the view that culprits managed to flee due to alleged slackness of DSP investigations. The DSP investigations felt this ridiculous and insulting.

Later, DSP Liaqat Tarar picked up a loaded magazine lying on the table and hurled it at Khalid Pervez which caused an injury on his forehead.

The looted traders suspected that someone from the bank or from where they received the cheques might have helped outlaws plan the robbery. They lamented that Rescue 15 failed to attend to their calls and also that no civilian rescued them when they were being looted.

RPO Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar Gondal took serious notice of this incident and suspended both the DSPs from service and summoned them to appear before him today (Thursday).

Meanwhile, DPO Waseem Ahmad also admonished the two DSPs and described the incident ‘intolerable’.

The DPO has deputed special team to trace the robbers. However, nothing significant happened till the filing of this report and no case had been registered so far either in connection with robbery or the scuffle between the two DSPs.

SENTENCED: Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Suhail Nasir here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death on two counts and fined him Rs100,000 for killing his wife and daughter over a family dispute.

Ejaz of Chak 89/SB had slaughtered his wife Sumera and daughter Maria in March this year while injuring another daughter Javeria.

Police booked Ejaz and his brother in double murder case and submitted a challan before the Anti-Terrorism Court, which convicted Ejaz but acquitted his brother by giving him benefit of doubt.

Ejaz was also sentenced to 10 years in imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 for injuring his daughter.

NGOs working for the protection of women expressed their satisfaction over the verdict and demanded that special courts should try all offences against women.

BUREAU: A special accountability bureau office is likely to be set up here next week, which will deal with corruption cases up to Rs30 million. It is the third office of its kind all over Punjab. Citizens appreciated the setting up of the bureau and hoped that it will help eradicate corruption.
