RAWALPINDI, Sept 4: After the two deadly terrorist strikes in the city, security agencies Tuesday night found explosives packed in a bag that was abandoned outside the Army Officers’ Mess located adjacent to a five-star hotel on the Peshawar Road.
Soon after the discovery, a bomb disposal team of the military cordoned off the site and even kept the Civil Defence and police personnel away from the unattended bag.
After getting it X-rayed, the team came to know that the bag contained explosive material, a bomb disposal expert said.
“Explosives weighing around six pounds, detonator/fuses and a diary containing some telephone numbers were found in the bag,” he added.
Security has been enhanced to the highest level in Rawalpindi city after the morning blasts, which left more than 25 people dead, including some army personnel.
Soldiers armed with machine guns have been deployed outside sensitive installations and on a number of roads, mainly around the military headquarters.
A security source said there were intelligence reports that terrorists might strike at a mosque near Qasim Market during Friday prayers.
