Railway tracks blown up

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Sept 4: A portion of railway tracks in the Darakhshan region of Sariab was blown up on Tuesday morning, suspending the train service between Quetta and the rest of the country for several hours.

According to railway authorities, some people had planted an explosive device on the railway tracks and blew it up at 3.30am.

“A 3-foot portion of the tracks was damaged in the powerful blast,” railway officials said, adding that all Quetta-bound trains were stopped at different railway stations while trains headed for Lahore and Peshawar could not leave on schedule.

However, railway engineers and other staff repaired the tracks and opened it for traffic at about 11am.

Meanwhile, a telephone exchange near the offices of the DCO of Mastung was blown up on Monday night, resulting in hundreds of telephone lines going dead.
