NAWABSHAH: 3 more jails in Sindh planned

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, Sept 4: The government will construct three more jails each in Naushahro Feroze, Ghotki, and Mirpurkhas to overcome space problem as 30,000 inmates are jammed in prisons across Sindh against the capacity of 9,500, said Dr Ayoub Shaikh, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister for Prison Department, on Tuesday.

He told reporters that his department was trying to control crime inside jails and at least three superintendents and 12 jailors had been suspended while three jailors terminated.

He said medical budget was too meagre to provide medicines in jails and hoped it may increase to Rs50 million. He said as per High Court ruling, the Home Department had procured 140 new vehicles which would be handed over to jails for transportation of under trial prisoners to courts.
