KARACHI: Mengal’s indictment deferred

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 4: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday deferred the indictment of the former chief minister of Balochistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, till Sept 11 in a case of kidnapping and holding army personnel hostage on April 5, 2006.

Judge Saghir Hussein Zaidi of the ATC-III, who is conducting the trial in the Central Prison, had earlier fixed July 5 for framing of charges against the accused, but the hearing was postponed due to the lawyers’ strike in response to the presidential reference against the Chief Justice.

The court then fixed Aug 7 for his indictment, but later changed the decision on an application submitted by Mr Mengal’s counsel.
