Arrival of Gillespie, MacGill to boost Aussie ‘A’ squad

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Sept 3: Fast bowler Jason Gillespie and leg-spinner Stuart MacGill will be joining the Australia ‘A’ squad in the next two days to boost the morale of their team ahead of the three-match one-day series against Pakistan ‘A’ which commences here on Wednesday.

Gillespie will be reaching here on Tuesday while MacGill will join the squad on Wednesday. This was stated by team manager Daryl Foster on Monday as he spoke to reporters after attending the first training session at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Foster said the series was very important for his team as it could help it find suitable replacements for two of Australia’s greatest cricketers — Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.

“The boys have the opportunity to prove their potential in this series since the national team needs talented players to fill in the shoes of stalwarts like McGrath and Warne,” he said.

Foster said he had been visiting Pakistan in the previous years and did not foresee any security problem during the series.

Commenting on the strength of Pakistan ‘A’ team, Foster said there were many talented boys in the side and he was expecting a tough series between the two teams. “Pakistan has named a few Test cricketers who along with the under-19 players form a good combination for the matches.”

Dismissing all the talk about rough weather in this part of the world, Foster said he had no problems with the hot and humid climate which was almost similar to Australia.
