KARACHI: Over six hurt in clash of students

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 3: Over half a dozen students were injured when activists of two organisations clashed at the Jamia Millia Degree College on Monday, in a grim reminder of the recent battles the same groups fought at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) that left two medical students dead.

Witnesses said that activists of the Punjabi Students Association (PSA) and the Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) fought with iron rods and sticks after members of the latter organisation attempted to enter the college premises, considered a PSA stronghold.

“We have arrested several activists of both sides and will register an FIR after the formal processes,” said SP Maqsood Ahmed of the Shah Faisal Town. He declined to give the exact number of activists arrested.

The two organisations blame each other for the fresh confrontation.

The PSA claimed that instead of detaining IJT members, police arrested its members while the IJT claimed that police arrested its 20 activists.
