LAHORE, Sept 1: A late Khurram Shehzad strike guided Model Town Club into national under-18 soccer championship quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw against Pak Punjab at the Model Town ground on Friday.

Having six British-born players in their side, Model Town Club needed at least a draw to qualify for the quarter-finals, while Pak Punjab were playing under a must-win situation.

Pak Punjab grabbed the lead through Mohammad Ahmed in the 14th minute. Khurram, one of the six British-born players representing Model Town Club, rescued his team when he found the cage in the 61st minute.

Faisalabad Yellow also entered the quarter-finals after beating Wohaib Club 2-0.

After a barren first half, midfielder Mohammad Irfan opened the scoring in the 58th minute and striker Adnan Butt doubled the lead in the 72nd minute.

Pak Friends also qualified for the last eight after defeating Sindh 3-1.

Wahab Ali gave the winners a fourth-minute lead and added another in the 32nd minute. The winners netted their third in the 58th minute through Mohammad Omar before Sindh scored their solitary goal when Sohaib Ahmed found the target in the 79th minute.—Sports Correspondent
