KABUL, Aug 30: A wanted Taliban leader was killed on Thursday in a US-led raid in Helmand, the Afghan defence ministry said.
Mullah Brader had served as a top commander of the Taliban government and was a member of the movement’s leadership council.
The raid was launched after Taliban ambushed an Afghan army convoy between Sangin and Sarwan districts, the ministry said in a statement.
Air support from US-led troops was called in, said ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi.
“He was killed, probably in ground fighting,” he said.
“Brader was on the black list,” Mr Azimi said, referring to a US list of wanted Taliban and Al Qaeda members.—Reuters
