Court summons Wapda, Hesco officials

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Aug 30: The Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court has issued notices to the federal secretary water and power, chairman Wapda, chief executive Hesco, superintendent engineer (operation), executive engineer-I,II and gird station Larkana to appear before the court on Sept 6.

The court took the action over a petition filed by the president district bar association, Ayaz Soomro, on Thursday against the Wapda for low voltage, excessive billing and long spell of unscheduled loadshedding in Larkana division.

The petitioner said that the loadshedding had affected children and patients admitted in hospitals when temperature soars to 50degree centigrade in the area.

He said the power outages had made people’s life miserable as school going children and students could not study in this hot weather.

Power voltage never remain stable while frequent fluctuations had inflicted heavy financial losses on the power consumers as the fluctuation had damaged electric appliances.

The Wapda authorities and Hesco regularly issue inflated bills and could not maintain the continuous electricity supply which is a Constitutional right of people, the petitioner claimed.

After hearing pre-admission arguments Mr Justice Amir Hani Muslim has ordered to issue notices to the above officers to appear on Sept 6 before the court.

Notices issued: The Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court issued notices on Thursday to the district nazim, convener district council, district coordination officer, EDOs (finance, works and services), district officer building and local government support officer Larkana to appear in court on Sept 18.

The court issued notices while hearing a petition of 12 Awam Dost Panel nazims regarding the passage of the Larkana district council budget.
