ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: The government on Tuesday claimed to have busted a network of terrorists linked to suicide attacks on lawyers’ convention and Aabpara market in Islamabad. The two suicide bombers who blew themselves in F-8 Markaz and Aabpara Market have been identified as Yar Mohammad and Khana Din, both from Waziristan.
Interior Ministry spokesman Brig (retd) Javed Iqbal Cheema told a weekly media briefing that Islamabad police had arrested five suspects, Fasihullah Khan (Tipu), Imdad Hussain (Rambo), Qasim Mushtaq (Rashid) and Nasir Mahmood (Karim) and Faisal Mushtaq.
The spokesman claimed that Fasihullah of D. I. Khan was the mastermind who planned and directed the suicide attacks in and around Islamabad. He stayed in Lal Masjid from January till the end of June this year and helped in preparation of 400 petrol bombs, Mr Cheema added.
He said the suicide bombers and the arrested suspects used two Madaris, one in Islamabad and the other in Rawalpindi, as their hideouts.
Mr Cheema welcomed the unconditional release of 19 security personnel in South Waziristan.
The spokesman said that law-enforcement agencies would continue to maintain a high state of alert throughout the country.—APP
