LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Aug 28: The Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company, with the assistance of a local religious organisation, has disconnected hundreds of illegal electricity connections in the Khyber Agency’s Bara tehsil.

Officials of the company said they had received complaints about illegal connections provided by some residents of Bara to houses and workplaces in the adjoining areas falling in the jurisdiction of Peshawar.

They said the illegal connections were a burden on the local feeder and area residents had to endure frequent power breakdowns.

The company staff along with activists of the Lashkar-i-Islam raided the houses in Bara and disconnected the illegal power connections. Lashkar activists warned that people providing illegal connections would be fined Rs50,000.

TORKHUM ARREST: Authorities at the Torkhum border arrested three Nepalese and their Afghans on Tuesday for entering Pakistan from Afghanistan without legal travel documents.

The arrested people were lodged at the Landi Kotal lockup.
