FIR against excise men ordered

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Aug 28: District and Sessions Judge Hyderabad Mr Zafar Ahmed Sherwani directed market police to register an FIR against two officials of excise crime branch if a cognisable offence was made out in the statement of a man, who was allegedly kept in illegal detention and subjected to torture by respondent officials.

Bhagwano Mal, a resident of Sero Ghat, filed human rights applications under sections 22-A and B Cr.PC before the sessions judge after he was found in illegal detention during a surprise visit by judicial magistrate to office of excise crime branch in Latifabad unit-3.He was released and then he moved sessions court, claiming that he had been tortured by the officials and kept in illegal detention.

His release followed an application filed by his wife, Shanti Bai, before sessions judge. She claimed that her husband was picked up by excise officials Jamil Rajput and Mazhar Rajput on April 21 and was deprived of Rs80,000 and a cell phone.

She claimed that her husband later got an FIR lodged against these officials with Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on April 21. The sessions judge has fixed the matter for August 30.
