Court orders arrest of policemen for non-appearance

RAWALPINDI, Aug 28: An additional district and sessions judge here on Tuesday directed the city police officer (CPO) to take appropriate departmental action against two sub-inspectors (SIs) for not complying with court orders, and issued arrest warrants of three other officials for non-compliance.
Expressing his displeasure, Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem termed the behaviour of the two SIs as mala fide.
In a case of narcotics, Westridge police SI Mohammad Aslam had not been appearing in the court despite being summoned repeatedly. The SI had booked a man, Shakeel Ahmed, for carrying more than a kilogramme of charas, but he abstained from appearing in the court. The judge deferred the hearing till September 9.
In another case of narcotics, Abdul Waheed was arrested by SI Mohammad Ilyas, who had avoided the court despite repeated calls. The judge adjourned the hearing till September 6.
The judge also issued non-bailable arrests warrants of three other police official for eschewing the court.
Nasir Shahzad was booked by the Westridge police in a Hudood case. The investigation officer, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Imanat Ali, and prosecution witness constable Mohammad Nawaz were not turning up in the court to pursue the case.
In another case of narcotics, Constable Sibtul Hassan of the Saddar Bairooni police, also a prosecution witness, had not been coming to the court in spite of frequent calls made by the court. The accused, Aurang Zeb, was arrested for carrying 1.1kg charas.
These officials received the court summons but avoided personal appearance. The judge ordered the police to arrest them and produce them before him on September 10.
Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Imtiaz on Monday directed Station House Officer (SHO) of the Ganj Mandi police to submit his written comments for not registering FIR in a robbery case on the complaint of a woman.
According to the petitioner, Hasna Bibi, some 14 people wearing masks entered her house at Dhoke Matkal on the night of August 7 and looted electronic goods, prize bonds and jewellery worth millions of rupees and Rs1.15 million in cash after misbehaving with her daughter and daughter-in-law.
The woman in her complaint pointed finger at her son-in-law, Mian Zahid, who after quarrelling with her threatened her with dire consequences and disappeared with his wife three days ago.
Hasna Bibi in her petition stated that another dacoity took place at her house sometime ago and an FIR was registered. The robbers on August 7 while running away with the looted goods asked her to withdraw the already registered dacoity case, supporting her suspicions about her son-in-law.
The petitioner said she went to area police chowki and the police station for FIR but the police official did not facilitate her.
