17 arrested, fireworks seized

LAHORE, Aug 27: Police claimed on Monday to have seized a large quantity of fireworks and related material and arrested 17 shopkeepers in raids conducted in the Walled City on Monday.

The raids are being conducted to stop display of fireworks on the holy night of ‘Shab-e-Barat’ which would be observed on Tuesday (today) night.

According to a handout, the city division police raided different warehouses situated at Mochhi Gate, Lohari Gate, Akbari Gate, seizing 8,000 packs of match box bombs, 7,000 fire crackers and 16,500 other fireworks.

The police apprehended 17 sellers and manufacturers of fireworks and registered cases against them.

The handout stated the raids were going on.
