RAWALPINDI, Aug 27: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No 2 Special Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahoot here on Monday sent two accused in the Shaukat Aziz suicide attack case to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand.
Attock police arrested Maulvi Mohammad Imtiaz and Mohammad Usman from Jand Basal, Attock, a few days ago. They were declared proclaimed offenders after law enforcement agencies failed to arrest them.
The prime minister escaped a suicide attack on July 30, 2004 in Attock during his election campaign for the National Assembly seat. Earlier eight people — Abdul Manan, Nisar Ahmed, Abdul Basit, Qari Ahmed Khan, Noor Badshah, Maulvi Sadiq, Mohammad Usman Zohair and Qari Salman — were arrested in connection with the attack. The ATC judge acquitted one of the accused on May 22, 2006 but awarded death penalty to four and life imprisonment to three accused. The indicted persons disclosed the involvement of Maulvi Mohammad Imtiaz and Mohammad Usman in the suicide attack, but they could not be arrested.
