NEW HAVEN (Connecticut), Aug 26: James Blake warmed up for the coming US Open in perfect fashion by beating fellow American Mardy Fish 7-5, 6-4 on Saturday to win the ATP event here.
The third seed and local favourite won a topsy-turvy first set before easing through the second to capture his second title of the year and repeat his New Haven triumph of 2005.
Meanwhile, top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova won the women’s title when Hungarian qualifier Agnes Szavay retired with a back injury in the final.
The 18-year-old Szavay won the first set 6-4 but, after going 3-0 down in the second, she burst into tears and was unable to continue.—Reuters
