SIALKOT, Aug 26: Around 100 couples, 84 Muslim and 16 Christian, tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony organised at Jinnah Stadium here on Sunday by the district government.

Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool was chief guest. District Nazim Mohammad Akmal Cheema presided over the ceremony.

Sialkot-based exporter Tariq Barlas had donated Rs6 million for the event. Other members of the local business community and philanthropists also gave donations.

The governor presented gifts worth Rs50,000 to each couple apart from a ‘salami’ of Rs5,000 from funds arranged by the district government.
