LANDI KOTAL: Man freed from lock-up gunned down

By Our Correspondent

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Aug 26: Two people were killed and seven others sustained injuries in two incidents in Khyber Agency on Sunday.

The bullet-riddled body of one Sherin Khan was found near his house. He had been released from the Jamrud prison on Saturday.

Sherin had been in the lock-up for several months on charges of killing a woman hailing from Mardan.

He was not found guilty by the court of Assistant Political Agent, Jamrud. Officials in Jamrud said Sherin Khan had reached a settlement with the family of the diseased woman before his release.

In another incident, a minor girl lost her life while seven members of her family received injuries in a road accident near the Torkham border.

The Afghan family was on its way to Torkham from Peshawar when their vehicle hit a rock while negotiating a turn near the Machni check post.

The injured, including four women, a minor girl and two men, were taken to the Landi Kotal hospital.
