Fantastic Baby eyes Aberdonian Stakes Cup at KRC

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Aug 25: If one goes by current form and fitness, then three-year-old bay filly Fantastic Baby should land The Aberdonian Stakes Cup 2007 in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Giving a giant killing performance, she has ruled the previous five outings and looks pretty poised to make it six on trot. She will be making her appearance in the third race of the day’s programmem, which is also the feature event.

Mare Voo Doo Doll and colt Moon Raker enjoys an edge over others to follow the filly in the seven furlongs race.

Debutant Play Boy who had to be content with the second slot in The Kingree Lodge Performance Cup on Independence Day, should oblige punters by claiming The Emirates farm Cup 2007 in the opener.

Among his challengers are four such contenders who will be making their maiden appearance and can upset the results. According to previous performance, fillies Flawless Victory and Shu Manter should battle it out for the places in the four furlong race, a term race and restricted to two-year-old colt and fillies.

A card of nine races including two cups has been drawn for the day. The first race starts at 1.00pm.

If backed by connection, three-year-old bay colt Royal King is on course to complete for hat-trick by overcoming the field in the top division of class VII.

He should be chased by mare Forget Me Not and bay Rokara for the places. However, colt Quince is a dark horse in a field of 11 runners barring withdrawls.

Four-year-old bay filly Rolex should atone to the previous loss by picking up spoils in the fifth race. Her likely challengers are Kat Mandu and Lady Conqueror.

Three-year-old bay colt Gorella who surprised all and sundry with a fluent win under rider Ghulam Shabbir II on Independence Day, is tipped to repeat his performance.

Captain Cook, Fascinate and King Of Mehran should make amends by dominating their respective fields while mare Priceless is poised to return with flying colours for a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, the administration of the Karachi Race Club (KRC) has slashed the entry fee for the racing fraternity from Rs156 to Rs100, which will come into effect from today, deputy secretary, KRC, Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi confided to Dawn on Saturday.

The KRC official said previously KRC used to get Rs36 per ticket whereas a sum of Rs108 goes to the Sindh Government and Rs12 to Cantonment Board as tax.

He said the KRC comes within the jurisdiction of the Cantonment Board and as per the ruling of Supreme Court it was decided that only the latter are eligible to charge tax.

Rashdi disclosed that he apprised the Station Commander Malir Cantt, Brig Shakil Ahmed, with the CEO Cantonment Board, Shahroon Khattak, and revised the entry fee.

According to him, the Cantonment Board will now charge Rs70 per ticket while KRC earns Rs30.

The step, he said, has been taken in the larger interest of racing fans.
