PESHAWAR, Aug 25: The NWFP government and parliamentary leaders of various political parties in the provincial assembly have forged a consensus over abolition of the concurrent list to ensure complete financial, constitutional and administrative autonomy for the provinces.

A unanimous decision to this effect was taken at a special meeting of NWFP cabinet’s high-powered committee on provincial autonomy held here on Saturday with its head and provincial education minister Maulana Fazle Ai Haqqani in the chair.

The meeting was convened to forge consensus on the issue of provincial autonomy. Provincial ministers Shah Raz Khan, Asif Iqbal Daudzai and Inayatullah, parliamentary leaders of various political parties in the NWFP Assembly Abdul Akbar Khan, Mushtaq Ghani, Murid Kazim, Khalil Abbas, Mian Nisar Gul, Dr Salim, Gor Siran Lal and administrative secretaries attended the meeting.

The parliamentary leaders lauded the efforts of the committee and termed them satisfactory. The meeting also decided that the parliamentary leaders would formulate proposals for provincial autonomy, to be incorporated in the committee’s recommendations already finalised.

The same would be sent to the federal government after approval by the provincial cabinet.—APP
