GUJRANWALA, Aug 25: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Saturday to have arrested four “most wanted human smugglers” in a raid and seized 23 passports from them.
Gujranwala Passport Cell Additional Director Hussain Asghar said at a briefing at his office that accused Rauf Ahmad, nazim of a union council in Sialkot district, was running a travel agency and sending people abroad on bogus documents.
He said an FIA team raided his office and arrested him with 23 passports and other documents. He said the raiding team arrested accused Akhlaq Ahmad from Naushera Virkan, Muhammad Yahya from Gujrat and Saifullah from Qila Dedar Singh. He said the accused were sending people to Greece and Turkey illegally, adding that they were wanted for the last several years.
COURT CHARGE SHEETS 28: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday charge sheeted 28 people, including president of the Pakistan Muslim League Ghakkhar Town, in a case of aerial firing and road blockade and issued notice to witnesses for Aug 28.
According to the prosecution, Ghakkhar police arrested PML office-bearer Zahid Inayat Butt in an extortion case. In protest, Butt’s supporters disrupted traffic on GT Road and later fired in the air to force shopkeepers of the main bazaar to shut their shops.
SIALKOT JAIL CASE: An anti-terrorism court extended till Aug 30 the interim bail of a police official who took part in an operation at a Sialkot jail.
Former inspector Zulfikar Ali Virk was among those who took part in an operation in a Sialkot jail against inmates who held judges hostage during their visit to the jail some years ago. Four judges and nine prisoners were killed in the operation.
As a result, Virk was arrested. He fled from police custody a year ago. Later, he appeared in a court and got interim bail.
The complainant, Sessions Judge Muhammad Yousaf Aujala, appeared in the court on Saturday and sought adjournment of the case. On this, the court adjourned the case till Aug 30.
