Panjnad bridge closure clarified

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 25: The executive engineer (highways) said here on Saturday that Panjnad headworks bridge was not closed for heavy traffic.

However, he said, vehicles carrying weight beyond the prescribed limit were restrained from crossing the bridge in view of its dangerous condition. He said all types of buses and heavy vehicles were crossing the bridge.

A news report released by APP on Friday had quoted the Panjnad headworks XEN as having said that the bridge was closed for heavy traffic and an alternative route of Multan-Bahawalpur Road had been selected.

The XEN could not be contacted as his phone was switched off.

RESULT DECLARED: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Saturday announced the result of intermediate (part-I) examination 2007.

Of 25,195 candidates, 7,917 were declared successful showing a pass percentage of 31.42.

Meanwhile, a press release issued here on Saturday said Zulqarnain Salim, Walead Aslam, Syed Talah Masood and Asfa Ahmed of Sadiq Public School secured 9 A’s in the O level examination while Amer Ijaz Hashmi, Zohaib Syed and Syed Abdul Ahad obtained 8 A’s in A level.
