PML body suggests new slogan

Published August 26, 2007

LAHORE, Aug 25: The ruling PML’s manifesto committee has submitted draft of the new manifesto to party’s secretary-general Syed Mushahid Husain suggesting a fresh slogan of providing “rozgar, ilam and insaf” to people.

Committee convener Senator SM Zafar told Dawn here on Saturday that the party’s central working committee would soon discuss the draft.

He said he hoped that PML president Shujaat Husain would approve and declare it by the first week of September.

Explaining the party’s new suggested slogan, he said the term ‘rozgar’ means eradication of unemployment and provision of more resources of employment and “roti, kapra aur makan” (food, clothing and shelter). ‘Ilam’ means eradication of illiteracy, emphasis on higher education, particularly science and technology and ‘Insaf’ means socio-economic justice and easy access to justice in courts.

Asked about the salient features of the draft manifesto, Mr Zafar said they would be announced after approval of the draft by the party’s central working committee.

However, he said: “We have suggested more powers for the Senate, greater measures of provincial autonomy and greater role of the political parties in a democracy.” —Reporter
