NEW DELHI, Aug 24: A two-day Pakistan-India meeting on Wullar Barrage under the composite dialogue process will commence here on Aug 30.
Talking to reporters here, Pakistan’s acting high commissioner Afrasiab said a nine-member Pakistani delegation would participate in the talks.
The Indian side will be represented by the secretary water resources.
The talks will focus on Pakistan’s objection to the design and structure of the barrage because it does not conform to the Indus Water Treaty provisions. India had stopped work on the barrage in 1987 on the objection of Pakistan.
The two countries had held the previous session in June last year in Islamabad. In a joint statement then, the two sides had reaffirmed commitment to the Indus Water Treaty.—APP
