Sargodha bar denounces Afgan

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, Aug 24: The Sargodha District Bar Association on Friday observed a token strike to denounce Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Niazi for his outbursts against the Supreme Court for allowing Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif to return to Pakistan.

The bar, at its emergency meeting with president Malik Afzal Farooka in the chair, criticised Niazi and said he was speaking on behalf of President Pervez Musharraf. It demanded that the Supreme Court also serve a contempt notice on President Musharraf.

PROTEST: Over 200 people from Union Council 151 marched to the office of the union nazim to protest against him and the tehsil municipal administration over chocked sewers.

At the nazim’s office, the protesters also scuffled with councillors Rana Amjad and Naeem Abbas. They said that local council authorities had failed to ensure drainage of sewage, which had inundated Kot Fareed, Gulshen-e-Jamal and Zafar Colony for the last two weeks.

They said they could not leave their houses because their courtyards and streets were full of sewage, which was also mixing into water supply lines.

They raised slogans against Tehsil Nazim Malik Shoaib Awan and the tehsil municipal officer.

They dispersed after Union Nazim Muhammad Iqbal assured them that their problem would be solved within a week.
