Pindi govt gears up for removing billboards

RAWALPINDI, Aug 24: The city district government has finalised arrangements for the removal of towering oversized billboards from city’s important roads in order to ensure safety of public life and property.

The district government has announced that it carried out a survey of billboards displayed on main Murree Road and other important roads in the city, and issued notices to their owners for the removal of huge hoardings from roadsides and rooftops of private buildings.

At the same time, notices have also been served on advertising agencies for the removal of such billboards. A plan of action has been finalised to carry out an effective operation to remove all the oversized billboards, in case these were not brought down voluntarily.

The district government has advised the chairman of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to cut off the power supply to all oversized hoardings.

It has been learnt that the City District Government Rawalpindi has worked out a billboard policy, under which uniformity of billboard sizes would be introduced shortly.—A Reporter
