MIRPURKHAS, Aug 24: A 60-foot wide breach developed in Dil Shakh, fed by Mithrao Canal at the RD-45 near Sindhri late on Thursday inundating five villages and cotton, chilli, sugar cane and vegetables crops on hundreds of acres.

According to reports farmers of the area on account of rain had closed their watercourses which increased the pressure in Dil Shakh and resulted in 60-foot breach.

The five villages Nizam Bux Thaheem, Phul Thaheem, Adal Rajar, Ibrahim Katohar and Noor Mohammad Rajar got submerged thus forcing villagers to shift to safer places.

Cotton, chilli, sugar cane and vegetables crops standing on hundreds of acres were also inundated.

Irrigation officials and villagers plugged the breach by Friday evening.

BASIC AMENITIES: Mir-purkhas District Naib Nazim Zafar Ahmed Kamali said the Mutahedda Qaumi Movement has provided basic facilities including drainage system, water supply, road network, water pools and electricity to those villages which were deprived of these facilities since the inception of Pakistan.

Talking to people during his visit to different union councils of the district on Friday he said gas would be provided to some areas of Mirpurkhas, Mirwah Gorchani Town, Kak Bungalow and other villages at a cost of Rs30 million.

He added construction of overhead bridge in Mirpurkhas with a cost of Rs450 millions will be a gift of Haq Parast representatives to the people of this city.

He said with the efforts of MQM leader Altaf Hussain, Thar Express Train had been launched through Khokhropar-Monabao border.

He said that the MQM representatives were making efforts to establish passport office, radio station, resume services of Sindhri Airport and establish Sindh High Court Bench in Mirpurkhas.
