KARACHI: City’s survey conducted to contain gridlock

KARACHI, Aug 24: Sindh Chief Secretary Aijaz Ahmed Qureshi on Friday paid a four-hour visit to different parts of the city to assess the situation and complaints pertaining to traffic jams with a view to chalk out remedial measures.
The visit was undertaken on the specific directive of the Supreme Court to improve the city’s traffic management system.
The chief secretary has convened a high-level meeting of all civic agencies and stakeholders at the New Sindh Secretariat on Saturday to discuss the issue and find a solution to the chronic problem.
Mr Qureshi, who was accompanied by District Coordination Officer Javed Hanif in his visit, was briefed about the impediments in the smooth flow of traffic at various places owing to the ongoing development works across the city. He was apprised of the pace of work and the tentative deadlines for the completion of the projects.
Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Ghulam Arif Khan and EDO Works Nisar Sario briefed the chief secretary about projects pertaining to the water supply and drainage system being executed in Clifton, Brooks Chowrangi and Site.
The visit covered the areas like the PIDC intersection, Clifton, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Sharea Faisal, Nazimabad, Punjab Colony, Korangi Industrial Area, Site, Landhi, Quaidabad, Rashid Minhas Road, University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, etc.
