Sidebottom ruled out of next two ODIs

LONDON, Aug 22: England bowler Ryan Sidebottom will miss the next two One-day Internationals against India with a side strain, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Wednesday.

The left-arm swing bowler was injured in the third and final Test against India that finished Aug 13. He also missed the first game of the seven-match series at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday.

The second One-day International is on Friday in Bristol and the third in Birmingham on Monday, when Sidebottom will be examined to test his fitness for the fourth match in Manchester on Aug 30. The ECB will then decide whether to retain him in the squad or call up a replacement bowler.

The other matches are at Leeds on Sept 2, The Oval on Sept 5, and at Lord’s on Sept 8.The 28-year-old Sidebottom made his One-day International debut against Zimbabwe in 2001.

He played one more match in that series, but did not play for England again for more than five years.

Sidebottom has taken four One-day International wickets at an average of 35 in his three matches so far.

He is also in England’s squad for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup.—AP
