Farmers’ demo

Published August 23, 2007

TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 22: Farmers from various villages of the Chuttiana area staged a demonstration here on Wednesday against disruption of irrigation water supply to their area.

Dozens of farmers from Chak 407 JB, 408 JB, 409 JB, 410 JB and 411 JB marched here on Shorkot, Kamalia and Jhang roads. They went to the district courts complex and later their representatives met District Coordination Officer Nawazish Ali in his office. They told Ali that water supply to their area sub-canals Khanoura and Pandori had been disrupted for the last many weeks and as a result their cotton, sugarcane and fodder crops were dying. They said their farm animals were drinking brackish water after the canals went dry.

Ali assured them that he would ask the Faisalabad irrigation superintending engineer to visit the area and take measures to address their problems.— Correspondent
