Medical camp held for beggars

By Our Correspondent

MARDAN, Aug 22: A free medical camp was held at Darul Kafala, a home for beggars, here on Wednesday by the Human Rights and Development Organization and Sarhad Development Foundation.

Incharge Officer of the Kafala Dilrosh Khan and office-bearers of the SDF and the HRDO were also present on the occasion.

They appealed to the district governments concerned to make laws to force beggars to spend at least three months in beggar homes so that they could learn some technical skills to live a respectable life after their release from these homes.

Representatives of NGOs observed that at present beggars were released on bail after spending just two or three days in beggar houses and they restart begging because of non-existence of the laws which would bind them to spend some time in these beggar homes to learn some siklls.

They said that certain organised groups were patronising beggary in Mardan and they came to the rescue of the arrested beggars when they were brought to Kafala.

On this occasion, Dr Hidayatur Rehman examined the Kafala inmates.
