NEW YORK, Aug 21: Secretary-General of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Senator Mushahid Hussain has arrived in New York, fuelling speculations that talks between the leaders of Pakistan People’s Party and the government over future political set-up for the country have taken a crucial turn.
Mr Hussain is expected to hold talks with the PPP leaders to clarify the government’s position on certain issues which are stalling a power-sharing arrangement between President Gen Pervez Musharraf and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Ms Bhutto, who had earlier said in interviews that she would leave New York on Tuesday for London, decided to extend her stay here by another week, sources in the PPP told Dawn.
They said that the party’s parliamentary leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim is also returning to New York to join the talks.
He was in New York earlier this month, along with other PPP leaders, for consultations with Ms Bhutto following her three-and-a-half-hour meeting with President Musharraf in Abu Dhabi last month.
