KARACHI, Aug 21: The Karachi Table Tennis Association (KTTA) on Tuesday announced the launching of Essa Mohammad ranking tournament at the PSB Coaching Centre from Aug 31 to Sept 4.

“The event is part of KTTA’s concerted efforts for the revival of the game in the metropolis,” its chairman Dr. Farhan Essa said.

He said another ranking tournament was scheduled to be staged after Eid and added that back-to-back events are aimed at creating hype for the Karachi championship to be held later this year.

“This is the first step to honour former stalwarts of the game residing in the city,” he added.

The events to be contested are men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles, boys and girls U-18, U-15 and U-12 singles.

Meanwhile, a short coaching camp to groom youth commenced at the PSB Coaching Centre. ITTF Level I coach, Zulfiqar Ahmed, has been assigned to impart training to budding players from 3 to 6pm daily.

The KTTA has also appointed former SAF Games gold medallist, Arif Khan, as adviser for the camp and coming ranking event.
