Three hurt in gas blast

SIALKOT, Aug 21: Three people, including a woman and a child, were injured in an explosion due to gas leak in an under-construction house in Bohari Mohallah, in Naikapura police precincts, here on Tuesday.

Natural gas was leaking in the upper storey kitchen of local banker Faisal Bhatti’s house. The moment Bhatti’s wife Saima tried to ignite the stove, a big explosion occurred, leaving Saima and his three-year-old son Fawad and a labourer Jabbar Mukhtar seriously injured.

The second storey structure developed cracks in the explosion while a wall of the upper floor also caved in on a car parked in the street, destroying the vehicle partially.

Household goods worth millions of rupees were gutted in the incident. Fire brigade extinguished the fire after two hours.

The injured were taken to Government Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital and then to Burns Unit at Combined Military Hospital, Kharian.

KILLED: A shopkeeper was shot dead by unidentified assailants when he allegedly resisted a robbery at his shop in village Daakwala on Tuesday.

Four robbers stormed into Faryad Ali’s shop and tried to take him on gunpoint but he resisted on which the culprits shot at him, killing him on the spot. Later, the robbers fled.

ROBBED: A shopkeeper was robbed on Raja Road in Kotwali police precincts on Tuesday. Unidentified robbers took Abdul Karim at gunpoint and snatched Rs300,000 from him before fleeing. The police are investigating.

SUICIDE: A 35-year-old unemployed man, Mukhtar, committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills in Chawinda town in Pasrur tehsil on Tuesday.
