Ex-DIG lashes out at police brutality

By Our Correspondent

MIRPURKHAS, Aug 21: Stressing the need for accountability of police department, former DIG of Mirpurkhas Rana Saleemullah Khan has said that that there is no proper police system in the country and police force, instead of protecting citizens, have let loose reign of terror against innocent people.

He was talking to journalists here on Tuesday in the district and sessions court building after appearing in the court to attend a hearing of his case.

Mr Khan said that he had been victimised and implicated in concocted cases for trying to implement the orders of the Supreme Court in the high profile Mannu Bheel case. However, he expressed the hope that courts would provide him justice and said that he, like the entire nation, was looking towards courts of law for justice.

Answering a question, Mr Khan said that he could be reinstated at the post of DIG, Mirpurkhas.

Earlier, the former DIF with his counsel Salahuddin Panhwar appeared in the court of second additional sessions judge, Mirpurkhas, to attend the hearing of a case against him. The court fixed the next hearing on Sept 22 for arguments.
