Rs2.6 billion spent on uplift, says ex-minister

TIMERGARA, Aug 19: Former NWFP senior minister Sirajul Haq has said the MMA government is committed to providing basic amenities, including health and education facilities, to the people of far-flung areas of the province.

Talking to journalists here on Sunday, he said that during the last five years the NWFP government spent Rs2.60 billion on development projects in the Lower Dir district, which included millions spent on roads, the Khazana bypass, Timergara bypass and construction of six bridges.

He said that Rs860 million was spent on educational projects, Rs480 million on the construction of hospitals and provision of health facilities, Rs40 million on social welfare, Rs70 million on the construction of buildings and Rs20 million on agriculture development.

He said the construction of the Balambat irrigation channel, Timergara bypass road, Khazana bypass road, the upgradation of District Headquarters Hospital Timergara to a category B hospital, Timergara college bridge, Mayar and Samar Bagh bridges and Maid bridges were some of the mega projects completed in Dir during the last five years.
