Noor set to light up feature event at LRC meet

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Aug 18: If the owner, trainer and jockey combine truly, filly Noor should triumph in the feature event during the day/night 16th Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday evening.

In all, six acceptors are to contest in the Kot Lakhpat Plate, a class IV handicap race to be gone over the distance of 1,300 metres.

Four-year-old bay filly, from Cisco Wells out-of-No Lunch, Noor was placed third behind Kiss Of Luck and Zanjeer last Sunday. She should now win the honours of the day.

Her close rivals could be Chill and Gujrat Princess, who are good sprinters but yet to prove their ability over the race distance. The extra 100 metres put Noor on the advantageous position plus the jockey who is to ride.

This will be the last race of the seven-event card drawn for Sunday evening.

The sixth and supporting event, the Pattoki Plate, a class V handicap race will to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,100 metres.

Five-year-old bay mare Perfect Promise, who after completing a hat-trick of victories, ran off the frame last Sunday. The race was run on a very fast pace and she failed to match the leaders’ pace and faded out. She should make amends and re-start her winning campaign afresh. Royal Destiny, who had been demoted and Magic Stone, placed low in weight-scales should prove themselves as her challengers.

Three-year-old bay filly Richy Dancer and Royal Victory are the pick of the seven acceptors drawn for the fifth race. The former is appearing consistently on the board in her four outings and knocking at victory’s door. She should have the better of her six rivals Royal Victory and Do Or Die should fight for second place.

The fourth race has eight runners barring last-minute withdrawals. On recent form and handicap three come into reckoning. They are First Dream, Rana Choice and Stride To Moment. They should fight for the winner’s box in the same order.

The third race has eight runners of whom three competitors look on chance, namely, Mannan Choice, Blu’s Wendy and Toyota. All the three impressed with their performance in their previous outings.

They should fight it out. Blu’s Wendy is consistently showing improvement in each outing. He is trained by Wali Mohammad, who joined the ranks of trainers following in the footsteps of his father, Taj Mohammad, one of Karachi’s top trainers of his time.

Weldon Shogun and Shah Rani look good in the second race. The handicap seems more in favour of Weldon Shogun who has an edge over six rivals.

The first race has the largest field of 17 runners. This comprises runners belonging to the lowest division of class VII, an event meant for unregistered and non-pedigreed horses. But this time it has got a pedigree flavour.

Majority of the runners taking part in this race are those employed by the Lahore Race Club riding school for training youngsters in riding skills.

On form at least five stand a fair chance to win. They are Rose, Simoom, Leader’s Wing, Black King and Singapore.

Rose, who won a good race a fortnight back, should make it two in a row. Among the rest distance does not suit Simoom but on classification she looks good to put up a strong challenge to Rose. Dark bay horse, Black King and Singapore, will be there to upset all calculations.

In all, seven races have been drawn for the evening programme. The first six will be contested over 1,100 metres while the seventh and last over 1,300 metres. The first race will be held at 5:00pm.
