SHENLEY (Watford), Aug 17: Pakistan tail-enders Muhammad Rameez and Junaid Khan guided their team to a nail-biting victory against England Under-19 in the 2nd One-Day International here at the Dennis Compton Oval, Shenley Cricket Ground on Friday.
The first one-day international wasn abandoned as a no result due to rain.
Rameez and Junaid added 33 for the last wicket to steer Pakistan to one-wicket victory with 21 balls to spare.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and invited England to bat first who could manage just 160 in 46 overs. None of the England batsmen could face the incisive Pakistan attack with confidence and only Godleman (29), Dawson (19) and Chris Brown (16) showed some resistance with the bat. For the visitors, debutant medium-pacer Kamran Hussain (4-26) was the most successful bowler. Imad Wasim got two for 31.
In reply Pakistan, chasing the modest target, continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Debutant Asif Iqbal with a gutsy knock of 40 held the innings together before he was ninth out in a mix-up on center pitch with the score at 133 for 9 in 43.2 overs.
It was then left to Rameez and Junaid who stood like a rock to eventually win the thriller for their team in the 47th over.—Agencies
