KARACHI, Aug 17: Hyderabad’s Saad Baloch overcame stiff opposition from compatriot Shabbir Gul to claim the men’s singles crown in the Mirpurkhas Open Sindh ranking tennis tournament. He dropped the second set on his way to chalking up a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over his opponent in the final played at the Mirpurkhas Gymkhana.

The top seeded brothers —Abbas and Zuhair — were knocked out in the semi-finals.

Zuhair, however, made up for the loss when he picked up the juniors U-17 title by getting the better of Anas Khan 6-1, 7-5.

The boys U-13 and U-11 titles went to Zubaid Gul and Talha Zubair. The former accounted for Adil Kohari 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 while the latter whipped Jalaluddin 6-4, 7-6. —Sports Correspondent
