22 released from police captivity

KHAIRPUR, Aug 17: Twenty two people, including three teenagers, detained at the Sobhodero police station, were released on Friday on the order of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, comprising Justice Azizullah Memon and Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah.

The court issued the order on an application moved by Nisar Khuhro, a resident of Sobhodero.

Those whose release was ordered included Shaman Ali, Nizamuddin, Sudher Jamro, Basheer Ahmed, Ayaz Hussain, Mohammad Arif, Niaz Hussain, Dhani Bux, Hafiz Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, Aijaz Hussain, Basheer Ahmed, Mubin Ahmed, Awais Ahmed, Allah Wadhayo and three others.

A raid commissioner appointed by Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, raided the Sobhodero police station on Thursday and found 22 people, including three teenagers namely Nizamuddin, Ayaz Hussain, Mubin in the lock up. The arrested people com-plained of torture by the police.

In a surprising move, the Sobhodero police produced 19 of those detained before the civil judge and judicial magistrate Gambat for remand in a case under section 506/2, PPC, on Friday.

Those produced in the court for remand included Shaman Ali, Nizamuddin, Sudher Jamro, Basheer Ahmed, Ayaz Hussain, Mohammad Arif, Niaz Hussain, Abdul Ghani, Anwar Ali, Mushtaq, Abdul Latif, Dhani Bux, Hafiz Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, Aijaz Hussain, Basheer Ahmed, Mubin Ahmed, Awais Ahmed and Allah Wadhayo.

They complained before the court that police subjected them to torture and the court sent them to judicial lock-up.

Later, the above named persons were released on the directives of Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, from judicial lock-up Gambat on Friday evening.

This correspondent contacted several police officers on telephone to ascertain about the missing links in the entire episode but no responsible police officer was available.

PROTEST: Members of Khuhra community led by Lal Bux, Iqbal and Mohammad Nawaz took out a procession on Friday and observed sit-in for about one hour outside Sukkur press club demanding an inquiry against Sobhodero police.

They raised slogans against Sobhodero police. They said that the police had entered some houses of members of Khuhra, Jamro and Solangi communities, tortured women folks and picked up innocent people including children. They demanded that concerned police officials should be immediately removed and a judicial inquiry be held against them.

They said that since August 5, Sobhodero police had raided many villages particularly of Khuhra community and took away innocent people as well as cattle heads.

Two brothers killed: Two brothers were killed in Datto Narejo Village, Gambat taluka, on Thursday night.

Eight armed men attacked the house of one Maroon alias Marauf Narejo, opened fire at him and his brother Aalim alias Kuraro Narejo. Both died on the spot.

Gambat police took the bodies to a hospital for post-mortem. The motive behind the murders is said to be ongoing dispute between Narejo community over a piece of land.
