Woman allowed to live with husband

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Aug 16: The district and sessions judge of Qambar town on Thursday allowed a pregnant woman, Waheeda Magsi, to go with her husband, Sadoro Magsi, after she rejected her parents’ claim that she was subjected to torture by her husband. The court also asked police to provide security to the couple and shift them safely to their village, Bahram, on the outskirts of the town.

Ms Waheeda’s parents, Hajan Solangi and Ms Sugran, had accused in a petition that their son-in-law beat their daughter and stopped her from meeting with them.

Eight-month pregnant Ms Waheeda rejected her parent’s charges and said that they would force her to abort her child and then sell her to someone else because they were greedy and her father was a gambler. Therefore, she would prefer to go with her husband, she said.

The parents took the stand that their daughter was making the statement under pressure to which the judge allowed the parents to consult with their daughter in privacy and gave Ms Waheeda the option either to go with her parents or her husband and she chose to go with her husband.
