MUZAFFARGARH, Aug 15: Divers of civil defence and locals failed on Wednesday to recover six bodies from the river Chenab.
Reports said a boat carrying 12 people capsized in the river at Chenab West Bank Railway Station on Tuesday. The riders were crossing the river because of traffic jam on the Chenab bridge.
Divers recovered five people. Of them two were dead while three were admitted to hospital.
The recovered people have been identified as Sajjad, Tanveer, Naveed, Zubair and Khalid. Sajjad and Tanveer were among those who were admitted to DHQ Hospital.
Adnan, Mushtaq Ahmed, Umair of Karimpura, Multan and three others, all relatives, are still missing.
There are 12 boatmen here in Muzaffargarh. Only three to four people can sit in a boat but boatmen usually carry eight to 10 people and charge Rs30 per head for a visit to the river. There is no check by the government and any one can operate his boat.
On the other hand, civil defence has two divers to meet any eventuality at the park while hundreds of people visit the place on holidays.
Mohammad Shafi, a diver, told this correspondent that they had no oxygen kit or other equipment.
