Man gets death sentence in murder case

QUETTA, Aug 15: The Anti-Terrorism Court of Quetta on Wednesday awarded death sentence to a man in a murder case and sentenced five people to life imprisonment in a kidnapping case.

Judge Najibullah Khan sentenced Mohammad Akram to death and fined him Rs50,000 for killing Mohammad Imran on the premises of the sessions court of Quetta on May 27, 2006. A co-accused in the case, Abdullah, was awarded 10 years imprisonment and was fined Rs50,000.

In another case, the court sentenced Fazal Mohammad, Noor Mohammad, Sher Mohammad, Agha Mohammad and Mohammad Naeem to life imprisonment for kidnapping 14-year-old Ahsanullah on May 25, 2006. The court acquitted Mohammad Abdullah and Miriam Bibi for lack of evidence.

Sher Mohammad, Agha Mohammad and Mohammad Naeem were convicted in absentia since they are still at large.

The kidnappers had demanded Rs10 million for the release of Ahsanullah, but police had recovered the boy in an operation.
