ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: Progressive Women Association (PWA) Chairperson Shahnaz Bokhari has urged Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motu action to recover two women allegedly kidnapped by a policeman.

According to Ms Bokhari, Mumtaz Hussain Shah, a resident of Sarain village, had alleged that his wife Memona Bibi and sister Rehana Bibi were kidnapped on July 7 by Islamabad police constable Mohammad Akram and a fellow villager Javed Iqbal.

The constable had confessed to the kidnapping on more than one platform including a Jirga, she said while distributing the copies of affidavits of Jirga members to the media at a press conference.

The Sabzi Mandi police did not register a case even after 10 days. Later, we appeared before Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad and only then an FIR was registered, Ms Bokhari said.

“After running from pillar to post at last the accused were arrested, but the police are giving them VIP treatment and they are reluctant to recover my sister and wife,” Mr Mumtaz alleged.

The ailing mother and elderly grandmother of kidnapped women were also present at the press conference.

The PWA chairperson, while talking about the motives, said that according to her investigation, Memona and Rehana were kidnapped for debauchery, as history of the accused police constable showed that he had been involved in immoral activities and had allegedly been supplying women to senior police officers.

Ms Bokhari claimed that the influential police constable and his friends were continuously threatening the family of complainants.
