Fort Munro needs attention

By Our Correspondent

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 14: Fort Munro, a hill resort in Sulaiman range, lacks civic facilities, including drinking water, Dawn has learnt.

Fort Munro, 80 kilometres from Dera Ghazi Khan, is still without basic facilities despite the launch of the devolution plan which empowers local representatives to resolve problems at the grassroots level.

Earlier, in the British era, people fetched water from a lake at Fort Munro for drinking purposes. The British had established a conventional filtration system by the lake to make the water clean. With the passage of time, the system fell short of meeting the needs of population of the resort.

A water supply system worth millions of rupees was laid down to supply water from Khar to the hill station in the era of president of Pakistan Farooq Ahmed Leghari in the 90s but it has been out of order for the last seven years. During summer season when many tourists throng the resort they have to buy water on high rates.
