OKARA, Aug 14: Hundreds of tenants of Kulana Estate (an army welfare project) took out a procession to celebrate the 60th Independence Day of Pakistan.
The participants reached the local press club in large numbers and chanted slogans in favour of Pakistan and their demands.
The Kulana Estate Anjuman Mazareen president Malik Saleem said they (the tenants) were ploughing the fields of seven villages of falling under the estates since long. During the last few years, he said, the administration comprising ex-servicemen was using coercive tactics and subjecting them to various kinds of highhandedness on flimsy grounds.
The tenants procession was also addressed by MMA district president and national assembly candidate Dr Liaqat Ali Kusar who said that the retired army officers had no right to get such fertile lands.
The tenants said that if their tenancy rights were not acknowledged, they would start a drive against former servicemen.
Before leaving the city, the tenants took a round of city bazaars on motorcycles and tractor-trolleys.
