Protest against ‘deadly’ surgery

By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARGARH, Aug 14: Heirs to a patient who died at a private hospital in Alipur on Tuesday protested against the doctor and blocked the road. They alleged the patient was “murdered” by the doctor as he had fled from the operation theatre after the “surgery”.

Amir Ali told Dawn that his father Mohammad Ramzan, of Teachers Colony, was taken to the private hospital of Dr Mohsin of Alipur two days ago. His left arm was injured in an accident. Dr Mohsin suggested a surgery of the arm and demanded Rs6,000 for the job.

He said that the doctor after getting money from him took his father into the operation theatre. After three hours, he said, Dr Mohsin came out confused and went out of the hospital.

He said that when he entered the operation theatre, he found that his father was lying dead on the stretcher. On this, the family protested against the doctor and broke the windowpane of the hospital.

City police of Alipur registered a first information report against the doctor.

AUCTION DELAYED: Iqbal Pathanay Khan, son of late folk singer Pathanay Khan, has delayed his plans to auction of the awards his father had received in recognition of his singing. Iqbal, two months ago, had announced he would auction the awards outside the PTV Centre in Lahore on Aug 14 against the government’s and PTV’s apathetic attitude towards the heirs to the late folk music maestro.

Iqbal told Dawn the country was facing security threats, so the Lahore administration did not allow him to hold the auction at the public place. He said he would announce the date for auction next month.

He also said that when he announced his plans to auction the awards, he received a telephone call from a private TV channel which offered him a job.

He also received a letter from Islamabad Arts Council asking him to send his profile details to the council.

He said one senator from Kotaddu also asked him to send his bio data to him but later on no one helped him. He said when he contacted the TV channel for job, they refused to entertain him.

He said his father had received more than 80 awards for his folk singing and many audio and video recording companies were earning millions through selling the cassettes of his father without paying anything to his heirs.
