GUJRANWALA, Aug 14: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi announced different development projects for Wazirabad tehsil on the eve of inauguration ceremony of a cardiology centre here in Wazirabad on Tuesday.
He announced the provision of gas to Sodara Town, Chaka Meter, Dhaunkel, Kot Inayat Khanand, Rachna College of Engineering University at Jora Sian, upgradation of Kot Jaffer government primary school to middle level, Dhaunkel high school to intermediate college and introduction of MA English, Economics and Islamyat classes in Government Girls College Wazirabad.
He also announced establishment of an intermediate college for boys in Rasulnagar and upgradation of Dadwali middle school to high school.
He said a special package would be given to farmers of Khanki Headworks following renovation at a cost of Rs1.26 billion.
He expressed the hope that farmers’ difficulties would come to an end after the renovation of headworks.
The chief minister inaugurated Wazirabad-Sialkot dual carriageway which would be completed with an expenditure of Rs700 million. He said the PML had made a plan to give compensation to 4.2 million destitute people of 600,000 families.
Speaking at a public meeting, he criticised PPP and PML-N leaders Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif and said both remained in power twice, but did nothing for the country.
He alleged that it became the tradition of the PPP to come into power after some deal. “But the people have rejected both the political parties.”
He alleged that PPP dismembered the country while the PML-N rendered it bankrupt.
On the contrary, he said, Gen Pervez Musharraf put the country on the road to progress and prosperity by virtue of positive policies.
He appealed to the people to elect the ruling PML candidates in the coming general election.
Speaking on the occasion, cardiology centre project-director Dr Asif Javed said it would start functioning with outpatient door (OPD) from next year.
He said the Punjab government would provide Rs1.32 billion while 139-kanal agricultural land had been acquired for the construction of the centre.
He said the 200-bed cardiology centre would cover at least 500 patients in OPD where people of Gurjanwala, Gurjat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin would benefit from it.
He said patients would be provided with angiography and scanning tests facilities free of cost.
He said Rs23 million had been spent on acquiring land for the centre, Rs82 million allocated for its construction, Rs37 million for nursing hostel and Rs18 million for doctors’ residences.
District nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha, Kashmir Committee chairman Hamid Nasir Chattha, federal minister Shahid Akram Bhinder, federal parliamentary secretary Rana Bilal Ijaz, provincial minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan and others were also present on the occasion.
