KARACHI: Ill-fated couple’s friends being interrogated

KARACHI, Aug 14: There has been no headway in the mysterious killing of a newly-wed couple in North Nazimabad last Saturday as the investigation has been reassigned to another inquiry officer.
Mohammad Azeem, 28, and Beenish, 27, were class fellows at the NED University of Engineering and Technology and had graduated a year and a half ago.
They had tied the knot on Friday night and were found dead in their apartment in mysterious circumstances on Saturday morning, the day their valima was supposed to be held.
Azeem was employed at Siemens Pakistan.
North Nazimabad Town SP Naeem Shakih told Dawn that four friends of Mohammad Azeem had been questioned by the police, adding that the interrogation of three of his friends had been completed while the fourth friend was still being questioned.
Similarly, the statement of Beenish’s closest friends had also been recorded by the police, the SP added.
“As the couple’s soyem was held on Tuesday, we plan to question the family members of Mohammad Azeem one by one,” SP Shaikh said, adding that “we are looking into all possible angles of the case.”
The post-mortem examination report has been reserved. The initial opinion of the medico-legal officer who conducted the autopsy examination of Beenish is that the girl’s jaw and nose were fractured while her fist was closed suggesting signs of resistance.
The medico-legal officer ruled out any natural cause in the death of Beenish, suggesting that it was a murder, hospital sources said.
